Cycling Around Devon
Whether you’re cycling the local roads and trails right from the hotel, or racking the bikes for further afield, Devon offers miles of beautiful countryside for the serious cyclist as well as the casual rider. As part of our renovation we’re planning a bike wash and custom storage, and in the short term, we can offer a jolly good hose and secure overnight storage for your bike.
If you didn’t bring your bike with you, there are bike rental shops within easy driving distance, so why not get out there and enjoy this fantastic way to explore the area.
EGGESFORD - BARNSTAPLE
Tarka Trail - South Loop
Running between Eggesford and Barnstaple, The Tarka Trail South Loop offers 75 miles of cycling over mixed terrain in mid and North Devon.
The route incorporates a train ride between the start and end points from Eggesford Station, just minutes from the hotel, to Barnstaple.
DARTMOOR
The Granite Way
Running along the north edge of Dartmoor between Okehampton and Lydford, this 11 mile route is popular with families and occasional cyclists as it is predominantly traffic free, and entirely off road for 6 miles. More information and a map of the route can be found on the Visit Dartmoor website.
BRAUNTON - MEETH
Devon Coast to Coast
The hotel is less than 10 miles from the mid-section of the 99 mile National Cycle Network Route 27, or Devon Coast to Coast route. Picking up the route in nearby Meeth and heading north accesses the entirely traffic-free Braunton to Meeth section of the Tarka Trail.
TIVERTON
Grand Western Canal
Starting 40 minutes away in Tiverton, the Grand Western Canal is popular with cycling families offering easy cycling along the tow path and a wide range of family activities.
