Getting Around

Public Transport

The hotel is located in the middle of the countryside, so a car is the best way to explore the local and nearby area. However there are alternatives, including the Tarka line train service that runs from Exeter to Barnstaple, two local taxi services and a limited bus service that stops at the nearby train station.

GWR

Tarka Line Train

Completed in 1854, the Tarka Line runs from Exeter, St Davids to Barnstaple with 11 stations in between, including the town of Crediton and the nearby Eggesford station. It is only a 3 minute walk from the hotel to the station, but along the busy A377, so great care must be taken, and we would not recommend this with luggage, children or dogs.

Trains in both directions leave roughly on the hour but many of the stops are request stops, so there can be small variations in the actual departure time and it is advisable to arrive a few minutes early.

TO EXETER

Trains towards Exeter leave from the nearside (to the A377), with the platform entrance to the right of the building.

Trains to Exeter normally run between 7.00am and 9.00pm with a journey time of about 40 minutes and normally cost less than £6.00 one way.

TO BARNSTAPLE

Trains towards Barnstaple leave from the far side, with access past the station, across the tracks.

Trains to Barnstable normally run from 6.00am to 10.30pm, with a journey time of about 25 minutes and normally cost less that £5.00 one way.

Train times and tickets can be purchased online through thetrainline.com and gwr.com and tickets can also be purchased on the train, but may be more expensive.

The station itself has no facilities and very limited parking. A ramp is available for train access.

Bus Service

There is a very limited bus service operated by Stagecoach between Exeter Bus Station and Chulmleigh which leaves from Eggesford Train Station. The bus is the 5C.

There are three buses toward Chulmleigh starting at 10.46am with two hours in between, with tickets starting at £3.50 one way. Buses towards Crediton and Exeter start at 12:24 and have even more limited times.

Bus times and tickets are available on the stagecoachbus.com  website.

PRIVATE HIRE

Taxi Services

There are two taxi services operating in the area. These can be busy at peak times, so it is advisable to book early.
