Looking for a full day excursion? Exeter and Barnstaple are about 40 minutes away and offer plenty to do while the borders of Exmoor and Dartmoor are just 20 minutes away. ST AUSTELL
Eden Project
Built under a series of massive domes, the world-famous Eden Project houses a diverse collection of plants from around the globe. Built in an abandoned clay pit, the project has been ongoing for more than 20 years and now covers nearly 30 acres. Dogs are welcome and there are many outlets for food and drink. The Eden Project is near St Austell, about an hour and 20 minutes from the hotel.
LUNDY
Lundy Island
For something completely different, The National Trust owned Lundy island is accessible by boat between March and October, sailing from Bideford or Ilfracombe, depending on the tides. Puffins outnumber residents 15 to 1 and the island offers equal parts nature and rich history. Boats leave around 8am and return by 8pm, so this really is a full day out.
