Bar & Restaurant
The hotel has a licensed bar which also serves hot drinks including espresso-based coffees and a restaurant.
We serve food throughout the day from breakfast to dinner, including brunch, lunch and afternoon tea. On Sundays, we serve a carvery or summer-style equivalent. Afternoon teas, dinner and carvery should be booked in advance.

Rooms
The hotel has 22 rooms, all of which are non-smoking and WIFI is available throughout the hotel. If you require additional bedding, towels, tea & coffee or anything else for your room, please let us know.
We also keep a supply of toiletries, chargers and other items at reception, so if you’ve forgotten anything, just let us know and we’ll do our best to help.
The hotel has a combination of electric and traditional radiators. Most radiators can be adjusted and you are welcome to set these to a temperature you find comfortable. If you would like additional heat in your room, please request a portable heater from reception.
Rooms do not have air conditioning but there are electric fans in all rooms. Please check the cupboard or ask at reception if you cannot find one.
Parking
The hotel has a large car park, which is free for guests, as well as an overflow car park. While theft has not been an issue we’ve needed to deal with at the hotel, you are advised to lock your vehicle and not to leave valuables inside. The hotel cannot be held accountable for loss or damage to vehicles in the car park.
Please note that there are two driveway entrances to the property. The more popular southern entrance from nearest the train station, and the northern entrance towards Chulmleigh and Barnstaple. The acute angle of the southern entrance makes turning left onto the A377 quite difficult, so if you’re heading north, we we would advise using the northern entrance/exit.
Grounds
You can access the middle and lower sections of the grounds around either side of the hotel or via the restaurant and rear terrace at the back of the hotel. There are several privately owned cottages on either side of the hotel which are the permanent homes of private residents on the grounds of the hotel who make up our friendly community. The roads and pathways past these properties are owned by the hotel and for your use, while being respectful of our neighbours who have made their homes here. Please leave any gates as you find them.
There is a leat that runs between the upper and middle gardens of the hotel. At one time this was used by nearby mills which have since been converted to homes. There is a footbridge at the bottom of the garden at the back of the hotel and a stone bridge near the cottages to the right.
Our Treehouse is located near the stone bridge, overlooking one of our two ponds in the middle garden. These ponds provide a home for fish, birds and other wildlife. Kingfishers are sometimes seen near the pond and river and our resident owls can be heard at night, especially in the area around the Treehouse. Mink and otters have also been spotted here.
Lower Gardens by the River Taw
Continuing under the railway to the lower meadow, you can walk alongside the River Taw or sit beside the river on one of the benches. The River Taw holds wild brown trout as well as sea trout and salmon, which can sometimes be seen leap up the weir near Eggesford Train station. The property extends to the foot style on the left and to the gate, if you follow the path to the right, and overlooks Heywood Forest on the other side of the river.
Please take care while near the leat, ponds and river, especially in winter months when the river is high and fast flowing, and ensure pets and children are properly supervised at all times.
