Dog Friendly Bonfire Night

Last year a guest suggested the hotel would be the perfect spot to get away for dogs who don’t like the noise and flashes of fireworks on Bonfire Night. After checking what was happening in the area, a lot of locals said they’d like to come along too. In the end we had a lovely evening with about 65 people and their dogs, a little barbeque, a big bonfire and lots of friendly faces!
It was such a nice evening, we’re planning to do it again this year. It’s a very informal evening for people who want to celebrate fireworks night, but who have dogs are not keen on the accompanying bangs and noises. Weather permitting, we’re planning to have a bonfire in our lower grounds and set up a small barbeque and/or provide some pre-cooked autumn food from our kitchen.
Our bonfire is planned for Wednesday 5 November, but throughout the period, Saturday 1 November through to Wednesday 5 November, we will be taking steps to make life as stress-free as possible for dogs, with gentle music in the bar and restaurant and a warm, friendly atmosphere for them to enjoy.
The bonfire will be open to guests, neighbours and locals and we hope to have around 50-75 people and their dogs attend. There is no entry charge, but food and drink will be charged to help cover costs. What's Planned
Following the lovely evening we had last year, we’re planning very much the same thing – and hoping we can have the same great weather!
Starting around 6:30 on Wednesday 5 November, there’ll be a big bonfire in our lower field by the river. We’ll have a barbeque with hamburgers (including veggie-burgers), some hot dogs, etc. There will likely be some drinks including some beer and wine, but you’re welcome to bring your own. We’ll aim to wind up around 9pm but may go on a little longer.
Last year we had a great mix of guests from the hotel, friends, neighbours and locals. Many people brought their dogs, but there’ll be plenty of dogs even if you don’t have your own at the moment!
There’s no charge to attend, but a small charge for food and drink to help cover costs. Staying guests and locals are all welcome, along with their dogs. If you plan to attend, please complete the form below so we have a rough count of numbers, and for room bookings please contact the hotel.

What's On Locally?
It’s still a bit early, but we will continue to monitor any planned events in the area that might frighten dogs. For the past few years, we haven’t had anything other than some small private events that we couldn’t see or hear last year.
We can’t promise it will be completely noise free and of course there may be the odd household that lets off a few small fireworks with the kids, but we’re reasonably confident it should be fairly quiet, and chatting and music should cover most of the noise.
If any dogs are overwhelmed by whatever noises there may be outside, they can always retire to the bar for a spell, where we’ll have calming music playing at a reasonable volume to try to mask any small bangs there may be.

We would like to have an idea of numbers likely to attend for planning purposes. We’re expecting around 50-60 people, but if there are more, we’ll probably try to cap it around 75 at most.
