Since its days as a coaching inn on the Eggesford Estate more than 150 years ago, The Fox and Hounds Country Hotel has been a popular destination for guests looking for the peace and tranquillity of the beautiful Devon countryside.
Known for the warmth of our staff, relaxing atmosphere, good food and for being very dog friendly we have 22 rooms set in six acres of grounds on the river Taw. We’re pleased that so many of our guests choose to return to us again and again year after year and consider The Fox and Hounds Country Hotel to be their home from home.

SIX ACRES TO EXPLORE
The Grounds
We have six acres of grounds at the hotel, divided into three main areas. The upper or wedding garden and areas around the hotel are our most formally maintained gardens. The middle gardens feature our treehouse and two ponds where a variety of wildlife can often be seen, including king fishers and the occasional otter. Our lower gardens, along the edge of the river comprise natural open fields and wooded areas and are a lovely place to walk and for children and dogs to play.
FOUR LEGGED FRIENDS
Dog Friendly
From Yorkshire Terriers to Irish Wolfhounds, we have a reputation for being a very dog friendly hotel and welcome all well-behaved dogs at the hotel. Dogs are permitted in all areas of the hotel with the exception of a few bedrooms and you are welcome to bring them down to meals. We ask that dogs be kept on-lead in the upper gardens and while in public areas of the hotel, under close control in the middle gardens and may be off-lead in the lower gardens, providing they do not disturb other guests.
